Tad,
First check the engine codes. When I had the problem in my
’89 New Yorker, I tried everything, and then I gave up. I took it to the
dealer, and it turned out that the TPS sensor had malfunctioned. To my
surprise, this was covered under the 5/50,000 emissions warranty. They
replaced the TPS free of charge and it hasn’t stalled since. You could also
check it yourself if you wanted to with an ohm meter and a set of feeler
gauges. But first, I would recommend that you check for engine codes.
Good luck!
Ashish

J(> The only fix I found (AFTER I replaced the

J(> at the transmission.
My 88 Grand Caravan has always been about 5% slow. I learned this from
the State Patrol, unfortunately. Isn’t Chrysler liable for this? I
have never heard of any other car manufacturer daring to have any error
in the slow direction, for fear of lawsuits. I have even replaced the
gear (they gave me an identical one to the one I had, and I have not
changed the tire size, which is the same as on the original invoice).

I’m interested in a new 94-95 Suburban. Any comments about problems with
recent models? They’re expensive but will they hold their value?

We just bought an 85 LeBaron for an extra car. Having bought it "as
is", there a few problems. One is that the A/C doesn’t work. The
compressor will not operate at all, so I am assuming the system is smart
enough to stay shut down if the freon is gone. (???)
Looking at the condenser in front of the radiator, there is a spot near
the left bottom corner that is filled with greasy dirt. I think this is
the likely site of the leak. Any thoughts from those with A/C
experience would be appreciated. Are junk yard condesers reliable?
Thanks.

My ’87 LeBaron idles rough when I first start it up cold and then occasionally when it is warm.
I have checked the timing and noticed that the timing mark jumps around about 2-4 degrees.
The timing belt checked out OK .
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? I’m hoping I don’t have to replace the
computer!
It’s the 2.5 liter, 4 cylinder engine.

My ’91 Cherokee has a noisy ABS pump. Every 3-4 steps on the brake pedal
will start the pump for several seconds to maintain the pressure
necessary to pump the brakes if/when needed. The owner’s manual
indicates one might hear a slight "hum" from this pump, and that the
sound is normal. However, this sound is not a "hum", it is a vibrating
type of sound that is quite intrusive.
I have had the pump checked at a dealership, and was informed that it was
functioning properly. This might be so, but the sound coming from the
pump and being transmitted into the cabin is NOT normal. It almost
sounds like something is loose or broken inside the pump, causing the
noise. It’s vibration is excessive, and even attempts by me to better
isolate the pump from components within the engine bay to help NOT
transmit the vibration into the cabin have been unsuccessful.
Has anyone else had this type of problem? I am contemplaing having the
pump replaced, but have no idea of the cost.

We are faced with replacing our second transmission in 100,000 and
would like to know what other 90 Caravan/Voyager owners experience is
with their vehicles.

My question is concerning new engine break-in and engine additives. At what
milage should an additive such as Slick50 or Dura-Lube be added, or should
these additives not be used at all? If added to soon would this impair the
break-in process? I have Ram 1500, auto, V6 with 1800 miles. Do any of
you mechanics have any experience or thoughts on this?

It is right on top of the bell housing on the right hand side of the
engine . Sometimes there is a rubber plug inserted in the timing mark
hole that has to be removed to see the timing marks.
