Performance Chip, where to get?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:49 pm

I’d like to get a performance chip for my Ram V-6 3.9l (No flames please),
where can I get this chip?  Does anyone have any experience with
performance chips in their chryslers, good, bad, no change?  Plus, what
exactly do they do?  Can I expect mileage to drop?  Thanks in advance!

Defrosting problem on my 96 Caravan

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:48 pm

I am very satisfied with my Dodge Caravan but for one thing.  I live
in Quebec Canada and winter is getting here now. On Mild/cold rainy
days my windshield and all windows just fog up really fast.  Even with
the fan at 100% with the vents set to defrost the thick fog just stays
their no matter how long i wait, and this with the engine running for
over 20 minutes with the temp gauge at half!  So today, after having
to stop by the road because I couldnt see anything in front or around
me , I looked at my owners manual for the first time :-) and saw that
in such "humid" conditions I must press on the air-conditioning button
so the air is de-humidified.  All of this made sense to me, so i did
just that.  Presto! the windows defrost very quickly and im all happy
because at last this dangerous problem is solved.   I get back on the
highway and all is clear.  After 2 minutes of driving without touching
any settings on either the air-conditioning button nor the fan or
vents, my windows came all foggy in less than 1 min! And im not
talking about a little fog, im talking about a fog so thick that its
like driving with my windows painted white.  :-(  Its like I would
recircualte the humid air of the car constantly, but i dont.

This happens to me every single time its humid.  This situtation is
becoming clearly dangerous, and im afraid my dealer will never find my
problem.  Could it be that the air intake from outside is blocked or
that my recirculation button is not functioning and is allways in the
reciculate setting?

Sounds just like my truck. I too have a ’95 1500 4×4, but I
bought it in Sept. of ’94. She has about 13.5k on her presently.

Mine does fine here in the Smokies with the engine, pulling a
horse trailer. Yeah, I could handle more grunt, but it does the
trick. I recently hauled 9 rowing shells about 30 miles or so
and had absolutely no problems with her, up and down mountains,
etc…

I haven’t had any problems at all in the mechanical area. The
only problem I had was my console got stuck shut and wouldn’t
open. It took the dealer about an hour with a crowbar and they
had to order a new console. I wouldn’t have been that concerned
except my cellular phone was locked in there.  ;^(

I haven’t had a need for 4L yet, so I can’t help you with this.
The main thing I have used the 4H so far for has been pulling
boats out of the water, rain driving, and getting to the barn
and back. Once the truck has a few more scratches I will take it
off road.

  I average about 13-14

I get approximately 12.5 in the city and about 16-18 on the
highway. I love the way this truck cruises. I got to Charleston
in 6 hours in it (normally a longer drive) and back from
Birmingham in 3 (normally much longer) without a problem. This
truck likes to go fast.

How long are you folks out in net land having to wait for your ram
pickups.  I have on order a Cummins turbo diesel extra-cab 4×4,
basically loaded that was originally ordered in Sept. 94.  Thats
right, 1994!  I received price protection and am awaiting a 1996 model
that is being continually not produced for a wide variety of
entertaining reasons.  Any ideas?

Same thing happened to my daughter’s 1992 Toyota Paseo.  The car had
60K on it and the Texas heat is really hard on batteries.  I carefully
removed the battery, rinsed the battery acid off of everything, put
the dead battery in a rubber container, took it to an auto parts store
that recycles these things, bought a new battery and installed it.  No
problem after that (although she didn’t keep it much longer … she
traded it for a ’95 Dodge Ram).

EVS II Mopar Alarm System

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:48 pm

I just had installed a EVSII Mopar alarm system in my new 96 Sport
RAM pickup.

Does anyone know if there is an option to connect to this system
that is similar to the Clifford Proxmity/Motion Detector trigger?

The reason I ask is my friend next door at work had his 96 RAM broke into
via the rear sliding doors.

And NO, I do not want any motion detectors.  I have had several of these
is different cars and they all are either too sensitive or not sensitive
enough.

There is a tsb  to correct this problem known as a flash program for
your trans controller. What it does is elimanates partial torque
converter lockup the trans goes directly into full lockup. You have to
take the car to the dealer for this . Unless you want to buy a new
controller and install it yourself.   V…@ix.netcom.com

Timing Belts

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:47 pm

I have an 88 shadow with a 2.2 and a 91 spirit with the 2.5 turbo.  Both are 5
speeds and both have over 100k miles (shadow=117k, spirit=103k).  I replaced
the Shadow’s timing belt at around 70k.  I _know_ that I should be replacing
them on both cars ASAP – I get the feeling I’m living on borrowed time with
the Spirit.  My question is what other items are likely to need replacing
during the same time that the timing belt is being replaced?  I plan on
keeping these cars for a while – No car payments are pretty nice and I’d like
to see how long I can keep it that way.

Aargh!! Please help! My 94 4W Drive Dodge 3/4 Ton Turbo Diesel Shimmies

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:47 pm

There I was, cruising along at 55 mph on a paved road when I
hit a slight (tiny) wrinkle in the road and the truck began
to shimmy wildly and uncontrollably until the truck was brought
to a complete stop.  This problem has re-occurred on numerous
occasions creating a very serious safety hazard.

Anybody else had a similar experience??????

Other than this, the truck is in perfect shape and never been in
any accidents.  The problem first occurred at 11,500 miles and
happens ~ once a week.  The dealer has been extremely uncooperative
and maintains that he has never heard of this problem with any similar
truck.  They examined the truck and could find nothing wrong with
it and suggested that I had imagined the entire episode.  To add
insult to injury, they informed that if I brought the truck back
again for any reason relating to this problem that it would be
at my expense.

The situation has degenerated to the point where I have retained
legal counsel and am in the process of suing Chrysler Corp. for
a new vehicle.  They are, of course, using bullshit delay tactics
in order to avoid facing the situation squarely, and in the mean
time I have the following dilema:  On the one hand, I cannot have
the truck fixed by anyone other than Chrysler since this would
compromise the facts relating to the lawsuit; and on the other hand,
I am forced to continue using the vehicle since I depend on it for my
livelihood and it is a very unsafe vehicle b/c of the above problem.

Please respond with any similar experiences or helpful info.

Thanks,
Jim Kearney
